GFWC-GOWC (Greater Ocala Woman's Club) is off and running with many new projects and ideas to contribute to our community with funds/hands-on type volunteer work. We are a small (about 50) Club that encourages our members to participate in projects that also lead to knowing each other better.
We have a Book Club (Wise Women and Words) that meets monthly at members' homes. We all read the same book, and meet around the table covered with foods mentioned in the book (love to eat!) while a member leads the discussion about the monthly book. One of our choices leads to a trip together. We read Pat Conroy's book (South of Broad) and two carloads of us went to Charleston to take the tour and enjoyed seeing the locations mentioned in the book. This past year we read, Captiva Island by Kathy Lee Sumner and traveled to Captiva Island.
We provide Christmas/Easter dinner to our local domestic violence center, fund two scholarships, contribute to state projects, and are involved in the six different areas: The Arts, Conservation, Education, Home Life, International Outreach, and Public Issues.
We meet the second Monday of each month at the Hilton at 6:00 P.M.
If you would like more information about our group, please notify Charlene Earl, our Membership Chairman, at 352-624-2175. We look forward to an exciting year ahead!
